Passion for God – All Saints’ Day 11/1/2026

AMY’S PASSION FOR GOD… continues to stir in my heart every day since she passed (10/14). Her inspiring love for our Savior and the beautiful story and spirit Amy brought, and still brings, into our lives through her influence, humility, and passion for God is a gift that I (and many of you) are eternally grateful for.

Every morning and evening, Amy would include listening to a brief devotional reflection from Lectio365. It was one part of her daily rhythm. I cannot encourage you enough to take a few moments to download this important app and listen to this morning’s (11/1) special reflection —fittingly, on All Saints’ Day. HERE is a part of the text from today’s devotion:

“It’s the 1st of November and, on this day, many Christians celebrate the ancient Feast of All Saints. Today therefore, we remember and give thanks for heroes of our faith, sung and unsung, past and present.

Heavenly Father, on this day of thanks for saints of old, as well as for those I myself have known who are now part of that great cloud of witnesses cheering me on, I pray that I may live a life today worthy of their example, and that you will transform me into your image “with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit” (2 Corinthians 3:18, NIVUK).

Today I adopt an eternal, heavenly perspective on life, with a little help from the writer of Hebrews, who has just chronicled a long list of spiritual heroes from the Old Testament, and now turns to encourage me…

Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a huge crowd of witnesses to the life of faith, let us strip off every weight that slows us down, especially the sin that so easily trips us up. And let us run with endurance the race God has set before us. We do this by keeping our eyes on Jesus, the champion who initiates and perfects our faith. Because of the joy awaiting him, he endured the cross, disregarding its shame. Now he is seated in the place of honor beside God’s throne. Think of all the hostility he endured from sinful people; then you won’t become weary and give up. Hebrews 12:1–3 (NLT)

Thinking now of that “great cloud of witnesses”, are there any quiet saints I have known who might now be in those ranks cheering me on?

Inevitably, there are famous saints like Francis of Assisi or Mother Teresa of Calcutta whose example inspires me. But today, on All Saints Day, I’m reminded that the majority of the world’s spiritual giants are anonymous – not least because they are humble. Their lives and legacy may very well be known only to a few, but to God they are right up there with the famous names we read about in the Bible.

Father, I take a moment now to give thanks for a quiet saint who has died, whose life shaped mine, and whose example inspired me to live a little more like you.

…

There’s a famous quote attributed to Martin Luther: “Until a man is nothing, God can make nothing out of him.” And so I yield today by praying the words of John the Baptist with regard to his cousin Jesus: “He must increase, but I must decrease” (John 3:30, ESVUK).

Holy Spirit, I surrender my need to be significant, and for my achievements to be seen and celebrated by others. Help me to run the race marked out before me with humility and perseverance.

And now, as I prepare to take this time of prayer into the coming day, the Lord who loves me says in 1 Peter: Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time. Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you. 1 Peter 5:6–7 (NIVUK)

Father, help me to live this day to the full, being true to you, in every way. Jesus, help me to give myself away to others, being kind to everyone I meet. Spirit, help me to love the lost, proclaiming Christ in all I do and say.

Amen”
